Unifing product information management

Overview

When a company group's subsidiaries aren't sharing resources, expertise, and systems in a unified way with each other a lot of issues can arise. Some of these are unnecessary high costs and they pay for the same thing and a lot of time spent by the personnel doing the same thing and this is exactly what was going on at the customer.

Two of the three subsidiaries in Thunderful used the same PIM system but on different servers and different versions while the third company still used Excel as their way to store, share, and work with their product data. All three companies shared most of their customers which made it clear that they all would benefit from a unified PIM system.

So, we helped the customer do this by setting up a new Windows Server and environment where we installed the latest version of the PIM system Perfion. Once this was in place we improved the data model for all three companies by merging data, excluding data that were not relevant anymore, and creating more logical and standardized attributes. This allowed us to have one data model for all three companies and could therefore have the product data in a shared database which made it easy to maintain.

By centralizing the data they could share even more things such as automatizations to marketplaces, customers, and suppliers. The new setup of Perfion allowed the customer to cut down on the time spent working with product data and instead focus on areas to improve and grow the business.
